Just them | Alexandria, VA Family Photographer

When I talked with this mom of four boys (who is also a photographer) she said she wanted images of the family having fun and playing, and some images with her in them since she is so often the one with the camera.  It was hard to pull just these few images as my favorites from the evening since I had so many, but I feel like these tell their family story and show how much they love each other…that life is busy with four boys, but they still know how to have fun and enjoy the crazy pace.

I loved everything about this session.  As soon as I drove down the short gravel road to their home I was smitten.  I wanted to move right in.  There were horses, a gorgeous “yard” (I’m not sure you can call 15 acres a yard) complete with a barn, stream, and pond.  It was perfection just a short drive away from the city.  It was a joy to document this family at their home and I loved seeing how much the boys enjoyed being outside.  Thanks for a great morning!

This is one of my best friends from high school.  He and his wife just welcomed their third.  My Junior year he sat four rows up from me in English.  That was in Hawaii.  Many, many years later we somehow have managed to live in the same city.  Being a military kid is not always the easiest.  There is the constant cycle of moving, making a good friend, and then one of you moving.  There is no hometown to return to.  No place where you’ll see your high school friends every Christmas when you are “back home” for a visit.  I’m thankful for the technology that keeps me connected.  Here’s to friends, keeping in touch, and watching families grow.

Spring! | Alexandria, VA Family Photography

A few favorites from an Easter weekend session with a fun and energetic extended family.  We met at River Farm and enjoyed exploring the gardens.  The children’s garden was a big hit with the youngest members of the group.  It was a great way to kick off the weekend!

I loved running after these two beautiful girls on a warm Saturday last month.  The youngest was always on the go.  She was adorable as she ran all over the grounds of Mt. Vernon and never seemed to run out of steam.  Her big sister danced and twirled her way through the park, and charmed me and many of the other visitors along the way.  Thank you for a great morning!

I loved spending the morning at the home of this family.  They are about to move into a bigger house, so it was nice to have some images captured before they packed up.  Plus, there was a three month milestone to celebrate.  Thanks for a wonderful morning!

Projects | Old Town Alexandria, VA family photographer

Last month my friend asked me to do some pictures of her daughter for a project she was working on.  We met on a cold and very rainy afternoon to do some quick pictures in Old Town (one of my favorite photography locations–can you tell?).  She is adorable and can totally work the camera, but given that it was misting on us the whole time I thought she did exceptionally well.  Here are a few of my favorites, plus one of her little brother.

I had the honor of photographing this adorable baby boy and his proud parents last week.  He is so tiny and sweet, and was such a joy to photograph.  Thank you for a wonderful afternoon! –Sally

She is turning one this month.  I can’t believe it was just last spring that we were doing her first photo session.  She has grown into an adorable, and very active toddler!  She was on the move the ENTIRE session.  I wish I could bottle that energy!  Thank you for a great session!  –Sally

Extended Family | Northern Virginia Family Photographer

I’m trying to blog some of my fall sessions since I didn’t get to it in the rush of the holiday season.  This is one of two extended family sessions I had over the Thanksgiving weekend.  The kids all did so well, and it was fun to see them play with their cousins while we did individual family pictures.   Here is just a small sampling from the day.  Thank you for a wonderful session!
